One of my goals this year is to be more intentional about my crafty side. My husband says that it’s one quality I have that was always on his list for his “dream girl,” and it’s just been a much neglected side of my life for the last several years. I started scrapbooking in 1998 when I graduated high school, so that has been a long standing hobby for me though I haven’t done much of it since I got pregnant with the twins. I also had a friend teach me to crochet and some beginning sewing, and as a newlywed I tried my hand at some cross-stitch. Hubby’s thoughts included embroidery, which besides cross-stitch specifically I’ve never tried. So it’s time I get back to it!
For Christmas, I crafted some gifts. I crocheted the tops on some towels and I sewed a couple of aprons. I even made an earring holder based on one that was made for me as a child. (It’s actually the second one I’ve made; this niece moved this year and the one I made for her last Christmas was lost in the move so I made her another one this year.)
But it’s scrapbooking that’s on my mind this month. This month is my birthday month! Did you know?
Some of my local homeschooling friends are also scrapbookers, or used to be. You see, when the economy crashed, scrapbooking is one of those markets that was almost wiped out completely. Most all of the scrapbookers I know or knew, USED to be scrappers but haven’t in a very long time. The industry has changed some, but honestly not a whole lot – which was a surprise to me after being out of the community for almost a decade (besides a binge scrappy weekend a couple of times a year).
But we have already gotten together once to scrapbook together. Several of us have daughters that attend the same dance studio, so our plan at this time is to have all-day scrap “retreats” on the once monthly (ish) Saturdays when our daughters have an all-day choreography clinic. I got a few pages done this time, but we tried to fit in a board meeting too so I didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped. Here are the fruits of my labors so far!
This is a layout of my twins when they were about 2 years old. So cute, sitting on the washing machine and sucking on their candy suckers, loving on one another and watching me do laundry. I’ll add the journaling later as I like to continue creating at crops and get wishy-washy at home when I have time to really think about what to write!
A page about my baby girl, these pictures are some I’ve wanted to scrapbook since before I took them! Just a cute little photo shoot with my girly-girl looking pretty and acting sweet. I may go back and play with the background some on this one, but I had fun using the clear acrylic die cuts for the first time.
This one didn’t turn out well, I don’t think. I was following a challenge to use a card sketch for a layout, and I think it’s just not quite done yet though I’m not sure yet what else I want to do with it. We had a turtle for a short time so that Christian could earn a reptile badge, and the twins had a blast playing with it. Journaling is important to me, so it will be on there! Somewhere… eventually.
Well, that’s it for me!
What about you all? Are you crafty? Do you scrapbook at all?
