Welcome to the conclusion of the 5 Days of Threadbare Homeschooling series! I do hope that you’ve seen yourself in the last few days, that you’ve gleaned a few things and found help and hope in my own stories and experiences. But because my main focus has been about a subject that is less than encouraging, I’d like to spend today focusing on exactly that – encouraging all of you threadbare homeschooling moms, out there in the trenches, doing what the Lord has called you to do.
First and foremost, for anyone who has identified with any of the themes I’ve posted this week, I have a message for you. If you’ve connected with me because of things getting dull in your homeschool – it’s only a season! Maybe you connected with me because of the financial situation in your home, but – and please hear me when I tell you this, mama – I promise, it’s only a season! Maybe it was Wednesday’s post about things sometimes only meeting the bare minimum of what you need to get done each day that allowed you to connect with me. Praise God, mama, for it’s only a season. Or was it yesterday’s post about your need to connect with a mentor and a real community that brought you back here today?
Whatever brought you back for today’s encouragement, I want you to know something.
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster,
to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
But do not read that the way you always read it. Do not hear that the way you always hear it. Read it again, and then read it again and emphasize different words. And then read it in conjunction with this –
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God,
to those who are the called according to
His purpose. Romans 8:28
Dear Threadbare Homeschooling Mom,
These are God’s love letters to you. He has a plan for you, and even when bad things – bad situations, bad circumstances, just plain bad (even to the point of evil) things – when they happen, He wants you to know something. He wants you to know that the things He wants for you are good things. He doesn’t want bad things to happen, and He didn’t give permission for bad things to happen, and that’s not part of His plan. But there’s an enemy in this world.
What did Eve ever do to give the serpent permission to tempt her? What did she do to give him permission to lie to her and deceive her? She did nothing! Nothing that we see recorded. In fact, the Word says that when Eve looked at the forbidden tree, she saw that the fruit was good. She hadn’t even looked at it before, because she hadn’t doubted what God had said until the enemy lied. That wasn’t in God’s plan… but He knew it would happen, and He made a way for it.
That way was Jesus Christ. God has a plan for you, and it’s always to bless you. When the enemy gets in the way, God weaves it into his beautiful tapestry and works out the blessing to come your way anyway. It’s about faith. It’s about standing your ground and looking up into the eyes of Jesus, and pulling His Kingdom down into your every day world. It’s about understanding that He loves you without measure, without condition, and that He’s fighting the enemy over your circumstances on your behalf.
Oh Mama, if I could impress one thing upon you today, it would be that God loves you, and this, too, shall pass. God bless you!
